Bruno Rixen is acknowledged as developing the idea of cable skiing. Mr Rixen (a german national) had the idea of using winter ski lifts for water skiing.

Since the first cable ski system appeared in 1962, on a German lake called 'Sci Nautico', cable skiing has spread over the world!

The first recognised cable ski championship was organised and eventually held in Germany in 1985.The sport developed legitimacy over the following few decades and in 1994 the World Cable Ski council was formed.

There are now roughly 170 cable ski parks over the globe.

The ease of use, efficiency, environmental friendliness and inexpensive accessibility for the masses is paving the way for the cable ski revolution. Now you can experience the addictiveness of cable skiing in the western suburbs of Sydney, Australia. Sydneys newest attraction, Cables Wake Park, opened its doors for business after a ten year break in November 2009.

Already the water ski park has attracted the interest of some of Australia's most experienced and successful cable skiers, as well as internationally recognised boat riders. 

Wakeboarding is currently one of the fastest growing extreme sports. Clayton Dunn, a former professional skier at Sea World and member of the successful Australian Cable Ski Team at the 1998 World Championships in Germany, says cable skiing is accessible to any age group (weight limits apply) and experience is not necessary. All staff are trained and experienced skiers themselves, and can teach patrons of the park how to water ski.
